		<description>I find myself mostly in agreement with this post.
Only one pernickety correction the Tolkien/Catholic taboo is not just to surpass God but to Usurp him. (Which I guess will necessarily involve surpassing as well).
Eru/Illuvatar, who is in control of the means to power (the imperishable flame) can be seen therefore as the Supreme Power, or the Source of all power (I have always enjoyed the Ainulindale). So any attempt to wrest that power from Illuvatar involves a necessary challenge to his supremacy.
Which as you acknowledge in Tolkiens universe is simly taboo and impossible.</description>
